Ryan Stang

Ryan was born and raised in Hamburg, New York, and graduated from Buffalo State College with a degree in Communications. With the skills he has learned from his education, his connections with his career at Mass Mutual as a Financial Service Representative, and his experience in hosting large scale events in the area since the age of 18, Ryan has built an extensive relationship base which has always supported his charitable endeavors.

In 2009, Ryan came up with the concept of Serving for a Cause, which raised money for charities such as JDRF. This concept has transitioned and grown into Buffalo Spikes for Tykes (BSfT), which, this year, raises money for the Kelly for Kids Foundation, supporting disadvantaged children throughout the Western New York area.

It is Ryan’s constant leadership and driven personality that continues to make BSfT a great summer community-focused charity event. Ryan hopes to pass these philanthropic ideals to his daughter, Rylie.

Melanie Klaja

Melanie’s very excited to be participating in Buffalo Spikes for Tykes as Director of Operations for 2016. This is her third year helping to raise money for Kelly for Kids Foundation. She is also the Events Coordinator of Woodlawn Beach Bar itself, teacher of voice, piano, guitar, and drama, a Director for The Pulse of WNY, Sales Manager at Interactive Mobile Merchants, and most importantly, mother to 2 1/2 year old Rylie Renae. Helping disadvantaged kids in WNY makes every second worth while.

Bernadette Singer

Deriving from a childhood where her mother strongly encouraged helping others, Bernadette Singer grew up with the notion that you cannot do everything, but when you can do something, you should. This is her life motto.

Bernadette was a Sunday school student and parishioner at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church and School, as well as a member of the youth organization associated with the church. The youth organization was in charge of weekly food drives, volunteering at Friendly’s kitchen, and Christmas time gift giving. Every year at Christmas, the youth organization would shop for Christmas gifts for less fortunate families, and then dedicate an entire day to wrapping and delivering the gifts.

Bernadette has found her true passion in life through helping others find theirs. She says it is extremely important for me to set aside time for the rest of the world. I want to make that contribution, and I want my children to learn from me.” Bernadette is a member of several organizations, including the United Way, The Buffalo City Mission Group, The out of the Darkness Suicide Prevention Walk, and Buffalo spikes for Tykes where she is the Southtowns Community Director. Bernadette has also volunteered at Roswell Hospital a number of times, as well as other miscellaneous community activities and fundraising events. Additionally, Bernadette is very passionate about making regular financial contributions to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and the American Cancer Research society, as she, unfortunately, lost her father to cancer when she was only 12 years old.

Bernadette is a full-time wife with two children and one more on the way. Aside from finishing her degree in human resources management, and staying involved in community activities, Bernadette loves to spend as much time as possible with her friends and family.

Christopher Mahoney

I am honored to be on the board for Buffalo Spikes for Tykes as Director of the North Towns.  I strongly feel giving back to our community is not only our generation’s responsibility, but also a personal goal in my life. Youth is our future and because Buffalo Spikes for Tykes supports children right here in WNY it makes all the hard work worthwhile. My other non for profit work includes serving as a board member for Cradle Beach’s First Gala, which also gives back to children in WNY as well as work for Roswell Park, Woman and Children’s Hospital, Bornhava, and many more. Buffalo is our home, Buffalo is Growing and Buffalo is my heart.

Becky Black

Becky has been involved in the community for many years. For the past 4 years, she has been involved in running the Football program in the nieghborhood of Carnegie Scranton in Hamburg. Working with kids has always been a passion, especially when able to make a difference in thier lives. Prior to that, with her work at AT&T, she was able to do some work with Hunters Hope and Kelly for Kids. It was a perfect match for Becky to join the board of Spikes for Tykes. Becky currently works for West Herr Toyota in Orchard Park, which gives her the opporunity to meet many people and get them involved!
